Lego Brick 2x4
Key dimensions
Section titled “Key dimensions”Outer Dimensions (The “Box”)
Section titled “Outer Dimensions (The “Box”)”- Length: 15.8mm
- Width: 31.8mm
- Height: 9.6mm (This is the height of the brick body, excluding the studs/pips).
Inner Cavity (The “Hole”)
Section titled “Inner Cavity (The “Hole”)”- Width: 13.4mm (Explicitly labeled in the center view).
- Length: 29.4mm (Calculated: 31.8mm total - 1.2mm wall thickness on each side).
- Height: 8.6mm (Calculated: $9.6mm total - 1.0mm top thickness).
Studs / Pips (Top Cylinders)
Section titled “Studs / Pips (Top Cylinders)”- Diameter: 4.8mm
- Height: 1.8mm
- Spacing: 8.0mm (Center-to-center).
Inner Tubes (Bottom Cylinders)
Section titled “Inner Tubes (Bottom Cylinders)”- Outer Diameter: 6.51mm
- Inner Diameter: 4.8mm (to fit the studs from another brick).
- Wall Thickness: 0.8mm (This is the dimension labeled at coordinate D-4).
To create this LEGO brick in Tinkercad, follow this specific order to ensure the alignment and “hollowing out” process works correctly. Note: Use the Snap Grid (bottom right) and set it to 0.1 mm for precision.
- The Main Body (The Shell) Drag a Box (Solid) onto the plane. Change dimensions to Length: 31.8 mm, Width: 15.8 mm, and Height: 9.6 mm.
- The Interior Cutout (The Hole) Drag a Box (Hole) onto the plane. Change dimensions to Length: 29.4 mm and Width: 13.4 mm. Set the Height to 9.6 mm (it just needs to be tall enough to cut through). Alignment: Select both boxes, click the Align tool, and center them on the Length and Width axes. The Offset: Lift the Hole box down by 1.0 mm (using the black cone above the shape) so it doesn’t cut through the top of the brick. Select both and click Group.
- The Top Studs (Pips) Drag a Cylinder (Solid) onto the top of brick. Change dimensions to Diameter: 4.8 mm and Height: 1.8 mm. Positioning: Place the first stud at the corner (
from the edges to the center, as per the diagram). Duplicate: Use Ctrl + D and move the copy 8.0 mm to create the row. Repeat until you have all 8 studs. Select the brick and all studs and Group. 4. The Inner Tubes (Underside) Drag a Cylinder (Solid) onto the bottom of the brick. Dimensions: Diameter: 6.51 mm, Height: 8.6 mm. Drag a second Cylinder (Hole). Dimensions: Diameter: 4.8 mm, Height: 9.0 mm. Align these two cylinders to their centers and Group them to create a tube. Positioning: Flip the view to the bottom. Place the tube centered between the studs (the diagram shows them spaced 8.0 mm apart). Duplicate the tube twice to create the 3 tubes seen in the drawing. Final Step: Select everything and Group.
